- Description:
- Coiled, wide bottom. Grass coil, sumac sewing, Juncus design. Detached tag "Yokuts [Yokuts crossed out] Type Mission". On other side of tag "grass sumac juncus". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled globular basket bowl, incurving towards the mouth. The basket has a deergrass bundle foundation. The wefts are brown and black dyed juncus designs, a sumac or other peeled shoot background, and a tan juncus rim. The designs are three vertical bands of triangles and v shapes, and three vertical bands of double crosses. Exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has a tight spiral starting knot and bound under weft fag ends. It has a plain wrapped rim with a tapered coil ending with over an inch of herringbone stitches. A grey hair is woven into the basket about 3/4 of an inch from the rim.
