Twined basket with overlaid designs; open below rim; diagonal designs. Specimen misshapen. Tag "Klamath R. Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined globular basket bowl. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is in beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. Starting at the starting knot, there is 1 inch of three strand twining, followed by 2.5 inches of plain twining, followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim where there is 1/2 inch of parallel warp openwork, followed by a reinforced wrapped rim with one weft row of twining. The rim is unusually flat, and is wrapped with beargrass and red-dyed woodwardia. The main design is comprised of four diagonal polygons outlined by two rows of diagonal triangles on each side. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction. The basket is from Northwest California. There is a hair woven into the bottom of the basket.
