Twined basketry model of large meal and seed basin. Zigzag and triangular designs. Tag "Northwest Calif. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket miniature winnowing basket. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass, red-dyed woodwardia, and maidenhair fern. At the starting knot there is .25 inch of three strand twining, followed by .5 inch of plain twining. After that, there are beargrass wrapped warps followed by a reinforcing rod both on the exterior and interior. That is plain twining to the rim. The three are three horizontal bands of triangles, with a zigzag in-between. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily one-sided, but there are some designs on the exterior. The design showing on the back face in bands is seen on some Whilkut baskets, the basket is at least from Northwest California.
