MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap loomed. Cotton, singles in white (predominant), rred, dark green and peach. Wool singles in pink, peach, green, purple, blue and orange. Native name and meaning: Huipil Casamiento- Woman's wedding blouse CONTEXT OF USE: A traditional huipil from Todos Santos. Collar is made with comercial cloth and decorated with rickrack in dusky yellow and blue, and four pink felt roundels; all are swen to huipil with green thread. Brocading in wool. Iconography is geometric, animals and small human figures. Each side of huipil is decorated differently with brocading: one side has row of human figures and a row of horses. The other side has worm-like images and smaller horses. A single human figure appears on a side lienzo, possibly a weaver's mark. Dating relates to narrow stripes (Arriola de Geng). See also 3-29730-31. CONSERVATION: Good. End selvedges slightly worn;commercial cloth around neck is also fraying.
