Comment:
MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap-loomed with cotton threads: blue singles. Suppl. weft brocading in cotton and silk. Geometric and floral embroidery. CONTEXT OF USE: White wefts are bottom selvedges. Two snaps close head hole. Made in San Martin for use in Totonicapan. Neck piece embroidered in Totonicapan; dark blue and purple colors for wedding huipil (Arriola de Geng). Probably manta was added to bottom to conform to Totonicapan styles as small white stitches are visible where cut off and background color is darker; colors are brighter in suppl. weft brocading at bottom. Added purple sedalina stitching on one shoulder. CONSERVATION: Good, worn at sleeve openings, across front and back.
