Openwork twined basket. Tag "Klamath River Tribes att.". Second tag "NW Calif". Per Ralph Shanks: Openwork twined basket. The basket has two pairs of 5 crossed warps at the starting knot. The warp material is possibly willow. The wefts are unknown, with some beargrass overlay at the rim, as well some possibly commercial string. At the base there is plain twining to the edge, where there is two weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining then continues to the rim. Three wefts below the rim there is two weft rows of beargrass overlay and string twined into the basket. One row of three strand twining is directly below the rim. At the rim the warps are bent and then woven into a herringbone pattern, bound down to the interior, and then cut. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket has a rightward work direction with an exterior workface. The basket is from Northwestern California.
