Incense box, lacquer, for use in incense ceremony: small short, circular box with high domed lid. Decoration of top of lid depicts a warrior's helmet* encircled by red neck guard, * with blade shaped 'horns (a general's insignia*) attached to a large 'rivet'* which depicts a lion-dog's head, both in dense sprinkled gold, in relief (takamakie), the 'bowl" of the helmet is of gray, sandy material with gold 'rivets'. The ears of the neck-guard*; dense gold border around slightly sprinkled gold on black, with a crest in the center: diagonal cross in diamond. The red neck guard is in relief with black and gold detail. A small portion of the lid is of light gold speckles on black ground. Interior of both bottom and lid is in dense nashiji: gold speckles on black ground.
