a) Twined basketry covered whiskey flask. b) Metal screw cap. Design composed of triangles joined at apex. Tag: "NW. Calif. attr.". Second tag: "Klamath R. tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basketry covered glass liquor bottle with metal screw cap. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft design overlay is maidenhair fern and red-dyed woodwardia with beargrass designs. Starting after the starting knot, there is a mixture of openwork and plain twining surrounded by a single weft row of lattice twining. This is followed by plain twining to the rim. The design is beargrass triangles joined at the apex. The rim is trimmed. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.
