8 x 10" Negative. Image depicts man playing drums, surrounded by a group of people. Hoefler's original description: "Belgian Congo. The Drums. Broadcasting in the Forest. Without drums these little folks would find life very uninteresting for the drums supply them with entertainment and also with news from other villages. By the means of drums they send and receive messages. It is their telegraph and newspaper. By means of the drums they call the clans to war, to the feasts of meat when an elephant has been called, to the ceremonial moon dances and by them they tell of strangers who are in the forest."
