Description:
8 x 10" Banks of Ubangi River. Negative. Image depicts three men looking at a map, with two identified as Mr. Dufond and Paul L. Hoefler. Hoefler's original description: "French Congo, Vacuum Oil Company. The sign at the cross roads. Here we came into Bangui out of the depths of the Congo forests unto the banks of the Ubangui River and, after loading on supplies of gas and oil, resumed our journey toward Lake Chad. We are looking over the map of the French Congo, and Mr. Dufond, manager here for Vacuum of Portugal, is giving us some local information about the roads. Paul L. Hoefler is again found with the heavy beard for no barbers have been encountered for several thousand miles. The total mileage covered to this point from the starting point at Mombasa is three thousand one hundred and seventy two (3172) miles. Every inch of the way Mobil oil A. has kept the motors humming smoothly.
