Perraje: Backstrap-loomed, warp-predominant plain weave. Single-faced supp. weft brocading. Two pieces, joined at center by hand-stitching. Warps cut, braided, and knotted to form tassels.
MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap-loomed with cotton yarns: Warp 2 singles: dark, blue (predominate), white, red and tan. Weft 3 singles dark blue. Suppl. weft brocading in silk floss in cream and yellow. CONTEXT OF USE: Three bands of suppl. weft brocading; each band is a single motif, done predominantly in cream color. Iconography chevrons, birds and geometric. Tassels are mono-color in tan and dark blue , and bi-colored in tan and red.. See also 3-29633-34 and 3-29636 CONSERVATION: Very worn; overall color is faded; all four selvedges worn.tattered; brocading wearing away. Some surface stains. Some repairs attempted along center seam and where hold developed in body of textile; most wear of brocading is near center seam.
