Very old spherical coiled basket. Made by old Yuki woman now dead. Has her initials on side. Tag "Yuki". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled globular basket bowl, probably made for food serving. Food residue is in the interior. The basket has a twined start. The coil foundation is three rods of peeled shoots. The background wefts are a peeled shoot with unpeeled redbud designs. The design includes two sets of " P [ or R or V?] H S" as well as zigzags and triangles. The rim is plain wrapped; the rim coil ending is missing. The weft fag ends are primarily concealed. The weft moving ends are either concealed or bound under. The basket has non-interlocking stitches. The wefts on the exterior are less than 5% split; the wefts on the interior are less than 10% split. The basket has an exterior workface, with a rightward work direction, and a down to the right slant of weft twist. The layout of the designs is not similar to Yuki baskets, and the background material is not peeled redbud like most Yuki baskets. Therefore the attribution of Yuki for this basket is uncertain.
