Twined, with coiled rim; globular; diagonal designs of stacked red lozenges with thin black lines. Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined globular trinket basket. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is beargrass, red dyed woodwardia and maiden hair fern. Starting at the starting knot, there is .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1 inch of diagonal twining, followed by two weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim where there is a 1/4 inch of crossed warp open work. The rim is comprised of a few weft rows of plain twining with one reinforcing rod wrapped with beargrass. The main design is four sets of six diagonally stacked parallelograms with three stripes running through them. The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single-sided, on the exterior. The basket is from Northwest California.
