5.3 Objects relating to the Secular and Quasi-religious Rites, Pageants, and Drama
Accession date:
1944
Context of use:
Paper gown for burning to married man. It is presumed that all men have wives. Man's gown is somewhat larger than woman's gown. Size is the basic identifying difference between the types of gowns represented by specimens 9-2010 and 9-2011. An additional note of interest regarding these last three specimens is that they are sold by priests. They are the only objects in this accession which are sold by priests, but priests have many more objects of this nature for sale, representing just about anything that the departed ancestors might be thought to need or to appreciate.
