Hopper basket with sawtooth designs in overlay technique. Per Ralph Shanks: Mortar hopper basket, heavily used. Materials are shoot warps which appear to be willow, conifer root wefts, overlay of beargrass, redbud designs, the rim is wrapped with redbud, reinforcing rod at rim which perhaps willow. Bottom begins with three strand twining, then two bands of lattice twining over reinforcing rods, then one row of plain twining, and then three rows of three strand twining. Following that, the rest of the basket is in plain twining until the rim, where there is three strand twining and then a reinforcing rod is wrapped on.
