- Twined basket. Adiantum fern stem design material. Tag: "Klamath R. Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented. Warp material is hazel. Background weft is conifer root. The weft design overlay is beargrass and maidenhair fern stem. At the starting knot there is an inch of three strand twining. After that is plain twining for .5 inch. After that two weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues until the rim where there are three rows of three strand twining. The design on the base is a ring of black and tan spiral overlay. That is followed by one ring of maidenhair fern. On the sides there are three sets of a diagonal stacked parallelograms outlined by stepped triangles. At the rim is a ring of alternating beargrass and maidenhair fern. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. There is a hair woven into the basket. The basket is from Northwest California.
