Garment, sumba cloth, Ikat; red, white, blue, and brown figures: horned animal motif at either end, cocks, hens, horses, horse and rider, and geometric throughout center field on black and red ground; reddish-pink, yellow, and blue decorative border; self-fringe. Largely ceremonial, can be worn on shoulder or waist; worn by men only. Also given to men as “Feminine gift” by bride’s father to seal wedding contract as well as often used as burial cloth. Length 268 cm. Width 120 cm. fringe included.
