China, Kiangsi province, Ching-te-chen. Hot water plate, porcelain. Blue and white 'Canton, willow ware' pattern. Octagonal hollow plate with depressed flat center; flat almost horizontal marly, fluted corners of side. Two small handles of squared off knob type attached opposite sides; one open on top for water, and each with holes through sides for wire handles. Recessed base. Decoration: dark blue underglaze wash of river and temple scene with boats and bridge. Dark lattice-work band around outer edge of marly and light blue scalloped comb pattern on inner side. Simple flower in middle of each side. Underside white. Height 3.6 centimeters, maximum diameter 26 centimeters.
