- Description:
- Enamel mug. The white ground is stenciled with an image of three submarines on the sea. Beyond is a red sun on the horizon. Below the image is a red inscription: Blue bowstring decorates the rim. The mug marks the second anniversary of Mao Zedong’s personal approval of the Yuanwang (远望) class of tracking ship. It was first proposed by Zhou Enlai in 1965, approved by Mao in 1968, and in 1970 was being built in Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard.

Illustrated mark on foot: China Lighthouse Brand, Chongqing No. 1 Enamel Factory, May 1970 (中国灯塔牌 重庆搪瓷一廠 1970. 5. (2) Zhongguo Dengta pai Chongqing tangci yi chang). Condition: Enamel chips, stains on the interior.
