Alaskan Eskimo woman doll. Skin doll with embroidered features. Said to be stuffed with moss. Skin face has appliqued nose. Dressed in mukluks; all white w/ red lowers, red flannel around knees. Sealskin trousers; hair outside, decorated with bandsof sealskin bleached white by frost, and sinew stitching. Fur around face. Red leather knife sheath attached to belt. Carries tiny baby in her hood. H = 9”

Context of use:
Purchased at silent auction for $38 for a pair. Previously owned by Molly Balamuth, who said they had been given to her children in the 1950s by a friend who lived for many years at Barrow. Cf. 2-71728
