Ukemori said that young Japanese women use it to carry cameras and personal belongings. The air roots or kikon of adan, a pandanus that grows on the shores of Taketomijima. The root is torn from the living plant and split into thin sections from which fibers are peeled. These fibers are combined to create the thin cord from which this bag is woven.
