Context of use:
According to John Vollmer this specimen of Chinoisserie was embroidered in Gujerat in the late 18th century. The cloth itself (manufactured in England) was sent to India from England to be embroidered and then shipped back to England. Larry Dawson notes that the central medallion and filled corners are Persian ideas.
