Comment:
This Indian beadwork was obtained from an Indian dance held in either the year 1866 or 1867, at the foot of the hill opposite Mrs. Fred Ellis, Sr.''s home near Yountville, Napa Co., Calif. About one hundred and fifty Indians were present from different parts of the state. Some were from Clear Lake and known as the "Clear Lake" Indians; others were from Mendocino Co. and known as the "Eel River" Indians. The Caymus Indians from Yount Dist. were also present. These dances were held annually in some part of the state, and Napa Co. held it that year. These dances would last about a week. The Indians would eat and sleep in the daytime and dance at night.
