Coiled; shallow with striped squares pattern, brown withes. Tag: "Yuki" Per Ralph Shanks: Broad flaring coiled bowl, in the shape of parching or cooking basket. No signs of use. The basket has a tight spiral start with some clock-spring aspects. The coil foundation is splint and rods. The weft material is redbud, peeled and unpeeled. The design includes two concentric circles at the base and three horizontal bands of alternating peeled and unpeeled rectangles. There are some small random rectangles. The rim is plain wrapped with an inch of herringbone at the blunt rim coil ending; the rim has peeled and unpeeled redbud rim ticks. Several portions of the rim are missing. The weft fag ends are concealed and clipped; the weft moving ends are concealed and bound under. Over 50% of the wefts are split on the interior, less than 25% are split on the exterior. The wefts are non-interlocking. The basket has an exterior workface. It has a rightward work direction and a down to the right slant of weft twist. The Yuki attribution by Larry Dawson is consistent with the techniques and materials of this basket.
