Twined. Openwork. 4 bands of triangle designs. Tag "Klamath R. tribes att.". Second tag "Klamath River T.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined openwork slightly tapered basket, non-traditional shape. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel. The base weft is probably hazel, followed by conifer root wefts. The overlay material is maidenhair fern, beargrass, and red-dyed woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there is plain twining over multiple warps up to a .25 inch from the edge of the base where the conifer root starts as the weft. At the edge of the base is one row of lattice twining. Going up the side of the basket plain twining alternates with two rows of crossed warp openwork with one row of plain twining between the crossed warps. The rim has two weft rows wrapped with beargrass, reinforced with a rod, it is partially damaged. The main design is horizontal rows of triangles. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily single sided, with the design on the exterior. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.
