Description:
Basket, plaited, tall cylindrical shape, men’s knapsack with elaborate designs in many horizontal bands, all in black. Coiled plaque in base and attached plaited carrying straps. For use by men when traveling beyond the village. In it are usually carried rive and tobacco, a spare waist cloth, a sleeping mat, sometimes a palm leaf rain mat, a roll of dried banana leaves for making cigarettes, and perhaps a cap for wearing in the house. Traded to several adjacent tribes. Made by women. [drawn symbol] design called water snake. Height 34 cm. Width 17.5 cm.
