MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Cotton: white background; red, yellow, green geometric. Silk floss: multi-colored weft on main body; embroidery in magenta, yellow, and of-white. CONTEXT OF USE: Ceremonial or cofradía huipil, one of 27 huipiles from Sacapulas. Iconography: Geometric in woven body. Embroidery in tassel motif around neckline with half medallions of orange satin cloth. Weaver's mark of 'vine' on bottom back panel. 'X's' in line of silk floss near hemline; 'M' 'V' on alternate side panels under breast line. The addition of magenta satin cloth at neckline indicates a date in the 1930s (Arriola de Geng). CONSERVATION: Good. Satin cloth around neckline detached in one spot. Embroidery is discolored with lavender. Some brown discoloration around bottom.
