Object Name: Rice bowl Materials: Glazed porcelain Diameter at rim: 12 cm Date: 1966-76 Country: People’s Republic of China Description: The body is stamped with three identical scene of two men reading a book. They float above pine branches that represent the enduring quality of Mao’s thought. The original design had the two figures encircled in a pink line that culminates in a radiating star over their heads. Each scene is separated by a printed slogan: Read Chairman Mao’s books (读毛主席的书 du Mao zhuxi de shu); Listen to Chairman Mao’s words (听毛主席的话 ting Mao zhuxi de hua); In work follow Chairman Mao’s directives (照毛主席的指示办事 zhao Mao zhuxi de zhishi banshi). The motifs are printed between a double blue bowstring at rim and a blue line around stomach. Inscription: No kiln mark. Place of Origin: China Condition: Very good.
