4 x 5" Negative. Kamakura, Japan. Great Buddha statue. Hoefler's original description: "Kamakura, Japan. This great bronze image of Buddha, known as the Daibutsu was cast in A. D. 1252 by a celebrated Artist Ono Go-ro-ye-mon in accordance with comands received from the Shogun Prince Munetaka. This justly celebrated image is hollow inside and modern metal-workers are amazed at the welding and other workmanship of this huge image, builded to carry out the pious desire of Idano no Tsubone to fulfill the dying wishes of Minamoto no Yoritomo."(Prints Supplied To: Hills Brothers.)
