Tawa sun shield katsina (kachina); carved and painted wooden figure. Mask is round disk painted with red and yellow 1/4 circle in upper half. Lower half is turquoise blue with rectangular black eyes and triangular black mouth. Disks surrounded by 12 carved and painted eagle feathers. Wears a fur ruff and pompom of feathers on back of head. Body painted red with 1 yellow and 1 blue shoulder and leg. Wears a white leather kilt tied with a woman's belt, decorated blue and orange anklets. Black yarn knee bands on each knee, leather thong band with bells on left knee, fox tail at back. Holds a rattle with one hand and a blossom flute in the other. Turquoise and silver bracelets at each wrist. Wears Taos boots. A.L. Sahmie, carver.
