Twined basket with overlaid designs; speckled designs; damaged. Tag "Klamath R. Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. Crossed warp starting knot, indented. The warp material is probably willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is in beargrass. Starting at the starting knot, there is 1/2 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1 weft row of plain twining, followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining, followed by plain twining for 1.5 inches, followed by 2 weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim. The rim is trimmed. The design is specked beargrass. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is irregularly double-sided, with the main overlay on the exterior. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction. The basket does not appear to be from Northwestern California, based on the irregular workface, materials, and design, the basket may be from the Southern Humboldt Athabaskan cultures.
