MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Backstrap-loomed with cotton yarns: Warp 2 singles, dark, blue, and white, 3 singles red and tan. Weft 4 singles dark blue. Suppl. weft brocading in silk floss. CONTEXT OF USE: One band of suppl. weft brocading, located only on one side of shawl. Vegetal and animal iconography (5 bird like figures and one abstract figure). Dark blue and white yarns braided to create mono-color tassels. White red/white/tan stripes are braided together to create bi-colored tassels. See also 3-29634-36 CONSERVATION: Overall in good condition; surface and waxy stains on obverse side; some wear along warp ends and side selvedges; one large hole in suppl. weft brocading (un-repaired).
