Woven by Bertina Lopez Cumez’ mother of SCP. Purchased from Albertina Lopez Cumez [as she was then known] by ACW in Fort Bragg, CA, in June 2000. 2 paper tags on back of patterned section: (removed) —“ACW #9” —“Faja, Santa Catarina Palopó. Purchased from Albertina Lopez Cumez of Santa Catarina Palopó, Sololá, Guatemala, in Ft. Bragg, California, in June 2000, where she was teaching a weaving class. Woven by her mother." Single piece of weaving. Each end has section of unwoven warps, followed by 3 stabilizing wefts, then warp loops. Plain weave. Dark blue warp with thin lighter blue warp stripes. Section of dense multicolored bird, animal, and geometric motifs of supplementary weft patterning covers roughly one half of warp.
