- According to collector and donor, the bag is made of "pita" (bast cordage), a fine variety of "cabuya" (a Spanish term meaning Furcraea fiber in Costa Rica). The fiber is hand-combed before spinning. The dye for the black bands is from the seed of "ojo de buey" (Mucuna sp.), and the red-brown from the leaf of an unidentified plant
