Pan balance, steelyard type. Metal pan attached with black cotton thread to ivory rod; rod has incised black calibration marks along one side. Pan and rod fit inside a two peice wood paddle shaped container, moveable braided fiber circlet around handle acts as closure; painted character on outside of container.
