This temple is the headquarters of the powerful Jodo Sect, and millions of people visit it yearly. The term "Jodo" means the "Pure Land" and is applied to this Sect because the ultimate object of all its believers is to be re-born in the Jodo or Blissful Pure Land of Buddha Amida, Lord of the Western Paradise.
