Looks quite used, very grimy; 2 gaps in rim. 2- faced white overlay; a one step up, one step down design of 7 equidistant stripes. 3-strand twining 2.5 cm radius from start, 1 row 8 cm from start. "Cnecs" per catalog card. Tag: "Wailaki". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined cooking basket, used. Crossed warp start, with the warp sticks in a non-Northwest California style. Peeled shoot warps, with conifer root wefts and a beargrass overlay. There is three strand twining for 1.5 inches at the start followed by plain twining for 2 1/4 inches, followed by a single weft row three strand twining, followed by plain twining to the rim. The rim is trimmed, flush, with no warp sticks extending beyond the rim. The basket undulates. The design is a one step up, one step down design of 7 equidistant stripes, with a final horizontal row of checkered overlay. The overlay is two sided, with the exterior workface as the primary side. The basket has a rightward work direction with an up to the right slant of weft twist.
