Accession number:
Acc.4817
Description:
Enamel teapot with lid. The front and back are both spray painted on a white ground with two red peony or poppy blossoms with green leaves. A blush of yellow is at the lower left. The small differences front and back are revealing of the spray painting technique. But the real significance of the teapot is in the Reservoir brand seal on the foot. It refers to the program of ruralelectrification all over China and more specifically to the Thirteen Tombs Reservoir north of Beijing which was a communal effort in 1958-59 by tens of thousands of people.
