Comment:
On the occasion of a baptism or similar domestic celebration; the bottles were lined up just for fun. The food and drink exchange, important in all institutions, seems especially so between friends and neighbors. Because the ties to these people are unstructured, in a formal sense, in contrast to those of the family and the compadrazgo [godparentage], even greater attention to constantly reaffirming the relationship is deemed desirable. The offering of food and drink is the quintessence of this reaffirmation, and if someone professes friendship but fails in this informal exchange, he is said to be a "friend with his lips on the outside," that is, not a genuine friend (1967).
