Comment:
Per labels provided by Ira Jacknis: Landscape. Deer Creek, Tehama County; mid-June, 1962. Although Samuel Barrett had a long thought of making some kind of film on Ishi, the last Yahi Indian, it never came to pass, most likely because of the substantial problems of reconstruction that it posed. William Heick did shoot some footage of scenery in Ishi's homeland. One of his photographs bears a striking resemblance to a picture taken in 1914 during a trip that Ishi made back to his village. Even after 5 decades horses were the only way the get through the impenetrable terrain. (related: 13-5984)
