MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Cotton: 2,3,6,7 singles in white (background). 2,6 singles in red, yellow, and green. Silk floss in magenta. Suppl. weft in cotton 12 singles red; 8 singles yellow and green. Embroidery silk floss in magenta, yellow, orange, light purple and off-white. CONTEXT OF USE: Ceremonial or cofradía huipil, one of 27 huipiles from Sacapulas. Iconography: Geometric in woven body. Embroidered tassel, leaf and fowl around neck area. Half medallions in satin cloth at neckline. Weaver's mark of two tassels done in light blue and lavender silk floss emerge from bottom of the geometric design into the plain weave band near the hem. Red cotton and purple silk dyed synthetically (Carlsen). The silk cloth half-medallions at the neck are almost worn away (Arriola de Geng). See also 3-29663-664 and 3-29682. CONSERVATION: Good. Extensive fraying at the shoulders; some brown discoloration; threadbare holes in places. Extremely frayed embroidery and cloth medallions almost gone.
