Textile; wall hanging composed of fragments of 5 Turkish towels w/floral designs in beige and blue silk embroidery now forming design of three minerets; beige cotton fringe on all sides; fully backed by plainweave cotton. Later strips (fillers) are on cotton plainweave w/silk chainstitch embroidery. The towels are linenn w/various stitches incl. satin stitch, herringbone and something like drawnwork; the ends of each of the three design panels has remnants of metallic thread on silk core; the undulating cord which connects the carious pieces is silk bound on silk core and has bobbin lace (?) network of raw silk connecting it to the strips and fillers. The towels date from the 18-19th centuries and the embroidered strips are 19th century. Turkey attr. 123cm by 166 cm.
