Divination “game”: (a), (b) Tubular ivory container with floral and linear designs cut out. (a) Container. (b) Lid. All over length of (a) and (b) is 12.4 cm. (c) 45 thin ivory sticks, some painted, most in shape of weapons. For divination, telling fortunes. Sticks are cast, and their position and type denote a fortune, which is then corresponded with related chart. May also function as game (see Culin reference below), wherein bundle of splints held in a bunch and allowed to fall, the players endeavoring to remove them ne at a time from the pile without disturbing the others, using another stick bent over at the time for the purpose. Sets used by Chinese children are of splints from burnt punk sticks.
