Twined, globular. Series of stepped oblique triangles. Tag "Klamath R. Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket bowl. Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented. The warp material is hazel. The background weft is conifer root. The weft design overlay is beargrass, maidenhair fern stem, and red-dyed woodwardia. At the starting knot there is an inch of three strand twining. After that is plain twining for 1.5 inch. After that one weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues until the rim. The design on the base is a band of beargrass. On the sides there are three sets of a diagonal stacked parallelograms outlined by stepped triangles. At the rim is a ring of alternating beargrass and maidenhair fern. The basket has an exterior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is only on the outside. The basket is from Northwest California, possibly Yurok.
