- MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES: Treadle loomed white cotton background. Supplementary weft in cotton, mauve cotton and yellow silk floss. Native name and meaning: Huipil- blouse CONTEXT OF USE: Upper pieces joined by randa, 1 1/2 inches wide, multicolored, over dark commercial cloth. Bottom pieces joined by machine. Armholes are bound with black commercial cloth, machine stitched. Inside of upper half is lined with purple and white gingham. Embroidery is in red, blue, green, yellow, black, white and brown. Bottom white weave has additional suppl. weft brocading in diamond and basket weave of white cotton, creating a pattern on plain weave. Purple yarn or hilo de carizo (spool). Was a cofradia huipil because of silk and colors. Remade into an everyday huipil. Taffeta lining on armholes worn out and replaced with black ribbon (liston). Characteristic of this town is the randa in center. Neck treatment shows Quetzaltenango influence (Arriola de Geng). CONSERVATION:Very good. Commercial cloth around neckline and armholes are worn.
