Twined, with coiled rim; globular; black and straw-color design on red ground. Rim is out of shape. Tag "Klamath River Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined, slightly globular basket. Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented. The warp material is probably willow. The weft material is conifer root. The weft overlay design is in beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed woodwardia. Starting at the starting knot, there is 3/4 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1.25 inches of plain twining, followed by 2 weft rows of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim where there is 1 weft row of three strand twining, followed by 1/4 inch of crossed warp openwork, followed by a reinforced wrapped rim. The rim is wrapped with beargrass. The main design is comprised of six alternating triangles with smaller triangles on each side. The workface is on the exterior. The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction. The basket is from Northwest California.
