- ...He also found a stone ring [597] in the bed of a slough near by...." Description: "...Willis Lynch, Jas. A Barr, and H. H. Barr took a four day's trip through San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador Counties collecting relics.... Messrs. Lynch and Barr went to Campo Seco, then to Camanche, securing from Indians in a rancheria nearby 2 mortars and 23 crude pestles. Crossing into Amador Co. from Mrs. Hill's ranch, an Indian camp some five miles distant on the road to Ione was visited were 2 mortars and 5 pestles were secured at farm houses, being in use in most cases as watering "troughs" for chickens. During the trip in addition to the beads and the stone ring, 19 mortars, 29 pestles, 2 arrow points, and an iron hatchet or tomahawk were secured.
