China, Kiangsi province, Ching-te-chen. Bowl, porcelain; 'Canton, willow ware' blue and white. Deep hemispherical, with cut rim forming quatrefoil. Interior bottom convex and narrow diameter, with landscape in underglaze blue wash of various shades. Rest of interior white except band at top following the contour of rim of lattice work with scalloped lower fringe. Exterior: two wide panels with identical river and temple scene landscape including boats, bridge and willow trees. Band at top following contours. On one foil three human faces on the cross-hatched band. Very short recessed foot. Thumb nail-size chip in interior rim. Brown spots in surface. Maximum height 12 centimeters. Maximum diameter 26 centimeters.
