Comment:
...between the levee and channel about opposite the coal bunkers and within city limits between Edison and Harrison sts. was excavated to depths of 2-3 1/2'. Several skeletons were found, all with relics. No uniformity as to methods of burial was observable as bodies were found lying to all points of the compass. Many relics were found in sand and ashes not near bodies. During the three weeks specimens #468 to #653 were found. The excavations were carried on from the bank of the channel to the base of the levee." Description: "One of the most interesting finds of the three weeks (see #468) was with this skeleton. The find consisted of 30 perfect beads (28 being cylindrical, 1 spherical, and 1 flat and lozenge-shaped), 16 fragments of cylindrical beads, 1 broken perforated stone disk, 1 arrow point, one pestle, and 2 whistles. With three exceptions the beads and fragments were made of a fine grained argillite (See Prehistoric Implements, page 279)." No piece count on card.
