Description:
Coiled, plate shape. Tag "Mission Type". Second cloth tag on base "4". Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled flaring basket bowl. The coil foundation is deergrass bundle. The background wefts are orange, tan and black dyed juncus, as well as sumac. The design is a five pointed star/flower repeated in various colors. The basket has an interior workface with clipped, tucked, and concealed weft fag ends, and a rightward work direction. The rim is plain wrapped and the coil ending is tapered. Due to the clipped weft fag ends and the use of materials the basket is attributed to the Cahuilla.
